Helen Metcalf: "I found my dream job."

Course: Accounting and Finance MSc
Current position: senior consultant, FBM Consulting

"I have to say that the Accounting and Finance MSc at Kingston Business School really did change my life! Three weeks after I circulated my CV, I found my dream job. I am based at Canary Wharf, enjoying life, and really glad I took the course. Both the tutors and fellow students were incredibly supportive. I found the course content challenging, but confidence building – and we managed to have a lot of fun too!"

Muhammad Tahir: "My dissertation received a prestigious Grand Prize Distinction in the 2013 international competition of the Centre des Professions Financieres in Paris."

Course: Accounting and Finance (With Distinction), 2012

Muhammad received a 'Grand Prize Distinction' from the 'Centre des Professions Financières' for his postgraduate thesis.

"Much of my success is due to the excellent teaching and supervision of the academic staff at Kingston. Particular credit is given to my supervisor Dr Salma Ibrahim, who encouraged and guided me throughout my studies.

During my period at Kingston University, I was inspired by the Market Based Accounting module, which provided the opportunity for me to read many research papers published in international journals, including topics related to the performance of family businesses, company disclosures, executives' compensation, the effectiveness of corporate governance and earnings management.

This experience strengthened the practical knowledge which I had gained through 10 years working in the capital market in Karachi and inspired me to choose the subject  for my MSc thesis, entitled " The relative performance of family-founded companies listed on the US stock markets where the serving CEO/Chairman is a founder"

It also encouraged me to continue further extensive research towards choosing a PhD course on the interesting subject of corporate governance and earnings management, which I hope will contribute new evidence to the existing body of literature.

One of the most valuable skills I acquired from Kingston Business School was learning to work in a team, producing original ideas. As a result, I and my two fellow-members of the team ranked in the top 5 students in Accounting and Finance.

I highly recommend Kingston University to prospective students who wish to acquire a sound knowledge of Accounting and Finance and a respected degree, leading to a successful and rewarding career."

Zahid Nawaz Ghauri: "I found the syllabus here wider and academically deeper than many other universities"

Course: Accounting and Finance MSc

Zahid is from Pakistan and received a Kingston University international scholarship.

"I did a lot of research before coming to study for my Accounting and Finance MSc at Kingston University. I found the syllabus here wider and academically deeper than many other universities.

"I was lucky enough to receive an international scholarship, which enabled me to concentrate fully on my studies and complete them without any financial worries. Studying in Kingston University is not only enjoyable, but also one of the unforgettable experiences of my life."

Xu Jie "The lectures and seminars are of the highest quality and invaluable to my research."

Current position: financial analyst, Hewlett Packard (China)

"I was apprehensive about coming to Kingston Business School, given its well-known reputation for excellence. However, I have found it to be a very informal, friendly and helpful institution. The strong academic atmosphere helps to sustain motivation and inspire creative thought. The lectures and seminars are of the highest quality and invaluable to my research into the study of accounting and finance."

Jamie Cheung: "The vast knowledge and confidence which I gained whilst at Kingston are the foundation of my development as a divisional accountant."

Course: Accounting and Finance MSc
Current position
: assistant management accountant, Haymarket Publishing Limited

"I decided to further my knowledge with an accounting and finance masters. This proved to be a very important tool in getting a training contract. I decided to study at Kingston because of the reputation of Kingston Business School and its staff. Fellow students and members of staff were very supportive.

"The vast knowledge and confidence which I gained whilst at Kingston are the foundation of my development as a divisional accountant. I am now working towards my professional qualifications by studying CIMA, so the saying 'life-long learning' has its place in my heart!"

Matthew Spencer: "My interviewers were particularly impressed with the diversity this qualification contained."

Course: Accounting and Finance MSc
Current position: fixed income analyst, UBS Warburg

"When deciding whether to further my education with a masters, I was offered some advice – what a degree represented to employers 10 years ago, a masters does now. This was not my main reason for opting to stay in education, but in hindsight I realise that it should have been.

From my first phone call to arrange an interview with my present employer, it quickly became apparent that without my Accounting and Finance MSc it was very unlikely that such a large investment bank would respond to my application. When the interview came, I elaborated on the knowledge gained at Kingston – my interviewers were particularly impressed with the diversity this qualification contained.

Naturally the financial sector in which I am now involved demands the ability to gain knowledge of different financial markets, but add this to the accounting base provided with this course and you have made yourself extremely marketable. I would not be holding this position without my masters from Kingston and the help and understanding of all the staff there."
