Banking and Finance Masters (MSc): Attendance and timetables

When does teaching take place?

Like all UK masters degrees, this course requires you to accumulate 180 credits. There are eight taught modules and a research project worth 30 credits. For full-time students the taught modules are delivered in two 15 week semesters, (the 30 credit modules run across two semesters) while the individual research project and writing the resulting dissertation will take place over the summer. There are seven core modules and you will select one elective.

Full-time students

September to December: induction and personal development programme followed by five core modules:

  • Bank Operations and Strategy (15 credits)
  • Bank Financial Risk Management (15 credits)
  • Financial Modelling and Research Methods (30 credits)
  • Corporate Finance and Financial Statement Analysis (30 credits)
  • Portfolio Theory and Investment Banking (30 credits)

January to May: one 15 credit module, continuing study of the three 30 credit core pathway modules and two option choices. Core pathway modules:

  • Financial Services Regulation and Compliance (15 credits)
  • Financial Modelling and Research Methods (30 credits)
  • Corporate Finance and Financial Statement Analysis (30 credits)
  • Portfolio Theory and Investment Banking (30 credits)

One optional module from:

  • Financial Engineering (15 credits)
  • Islamic Banking and Insurance (15 credits)

Stage 2
June to September: Research Project (30 credits)
