Classical Theatre MA: What Peter Hall says

Sir Peter's views...

About the course:

"The setting up of the postgraduate course is a fulfilment of one of my long-held ambitions, made possible by the links between this wonderful new theatre and Kingston University.

"After 50 years of directing, I would like to try to share what I have learned. Even more, I am aware that the only way to remain creative is to understand and listen to the young."

About the Rose Theatre, Kingston:

"[The Rose Theatre] is one of the most beautiful and extraordinary in this country. It is intimate, yet epic; a place for intimate scenes or for surging battles. It has the mandatory requirements for Shakespeare; it is small enough to whisper in and large enough to shout in.

"It is a place for the imagination, where a good actor with a good text can make the audience imagine that they are anywhere. The use of the ground plan of The Rose allied to modern building techniques has been a stroke of genius. It is a modern theatre which has all the strengths of the past."
