Extra activities for this course

The range of events and lectures in the University enhances your studies and adds an extra perspective to your learning. For example, recent events in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences include:

  • specialist conferences – addressing issues such as 'Gothic Voyages', 'Iris Murdoch: A Re-Assessment' and 'Literary London';
  • film screenings –- such as 'Tudors and Stuarts in Film';
  • the English MA lecture series – our last series featured speakers such as Christine Pullen, Susana Onega and Dr Julie Peakman; and
  • the creative writing readings series – our last series featured readings by Liz Jensen, Meg Jensen, Mark Ford, Carole Burns, Mick Stephens, Trevelyan Evans and David Sanders.

The literary magazine Ripple is edited by MA students, providing:

  • the chance to get hands-on experience of the publishing process; and
  • a platform for the publication of creative work.

The University's Entrepreneurship Centre hosts The Entrepreneurship Experience, which invites experienced entrepreneurs to share their knowledge and insights of entrepreneurial ventures from a variety of industry backgrounds.  This series includes a regular focus on entrepreneurs from the creative industries.
