Environmental and Earth Resource Management MSc: What our students say
Student profiles
Don't just take our word for it – here's what some of our current and recent students say about what it's like to study at Kingston.

Name: Duncan Carter
Course: Environmental and Earth Resource Management MSc
Year of graduation: 2010 (awarded MSc with Distinction)
"Kingston University provided a diverse environment in which to study. The course is well established; covers a broad range of environmental issues, from biodiversity to waste management; and opens opportunities in a wide range of environmental and sustainability jobs.
"Many jobs are now demanding 'relevant post graduate qualifications' – an MSc from Kingston has given me the edge in job interviews and helped my find a job in the sustainable energy sector."

Name: Louise Adams
Course: Environmental and Earth Resource Management MSc
Year of graduation: 2009
"After graduating with a BA I went to work for Innocent, the fruit drink and smoothie maker which prides itself on its 'green' and ethical credentials, and I now work part-time for the company while I study.
"I'm able to put my studies to good use through my work. To get ahead and to be a credible corporate social responsibility professional, you really do need a masters degree and that's where Kingston came in. What's great is that my degree is directly and immediately relevant to my job – what I learn on a Thursday I can put into practice the following Monday.
"I spent a year travelling after my degree and when I returned home I was offered work with Innocent. I spent the next seven years working on the 'supply chain' side of the business, which involved everything from sourcing fruit to making sure it got from bottle to shop shelf.
"When I felt ready for a fresh challenge, I approached Innocent's sustainability manager about moving to that side of the business. They advised me to get a higher degree and I picked Kingston's MSc programme for its relevance to industry and because I could continue to work. What's amazing about Kingston is that it's so well geared up for part-time workers. Not once has Kingston made a change to a deadline or exam to a time outside the two days a week I spend at the University.
"For my thesis, I am checking Innocent's 'water footprint' – how much water the business uses and how to reduce its use while improving quality. I spend Monday and Tuesday with Innocent's sustainability team, Wednesday and Thursday at the University, and Fridays are study days.
"Despite the hard work involved, I would recommend part-time work and study. My advice is that you should go for a masters if you're really passionate about the subject that you're studying. I was really passionate about all the modules I studied so I did not mind putting in the hours."
