The Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences is a unique partnership between Kingston University and St George's, University of London.

Where is the Faculty based? The Faculty is split between Kingston University's Kingston Hill campus and St George's, University of London in Tooting. Radiography students also study at Kingston University's Penrhyn Road campus.

Faculty of Science, Engineering and ComputingThe Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing teaches this course. The Faculty's wide selection of undergraduate and postgraduate courses covers a diverse range of subject areas, from aerospace to geography; from maths and computing to biotechnology; and many more. Our collaborative set-up provides new opportunities for our students, and we design our courses with industry professionals to ensure you stay up to date with the latest developments.

Life Sciences: The School of Life Sciences is a dynamic and forward-looking School within the University, which has grown steadily since it was founded in 1989. Our diverse range of courses is taught by well-qualified academics, and aims to provide students with the skills they need to be successful in the modern world.

The School has invested heavily in developing its labs for both teaching and research. As well as specialist instrumentation laboratories, there are subject labs for biochemistry; microbiology; histology; anatomy; immunology; cell biology; nutrition; radiotracer studies; and physiology and sports science (including biomechanics and an environmental testing chamber).

Anne-Marie Hassenkamp

Title: Senior lecturer

Background: Anne-Marie trained as a physiotherapist and over the years has developed an interest in the management of chronic pain and other long-term conditions. She is also a member of the Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, which gave her an opportunity to work with people with acute musculoskeletal injuries and problems at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital/Stanmore. She joined the University in 2004.

Research interests: Anne-Marie has an interest in the ever-changing arena of clinical practice and has in the past contributed to some Action Research projects (multidisciplinary teams) and has worked on the national lumbar stability trial and investigating falls in elderly women.

At present she is working on the phenomenological aspects of pain management and the relevance of reflection and reflexivity on the ever changing aspects of clinical practice. She is interested in gaining more insights into how we can collaborate with people/patients for them to get more out of their bodies and hence improve their quality of life.

Andrea Petróczi

Title: Reader in Public Health

Background information: Andrea is actively involved in international sport management associations. Between 1993 and 1996, she served as a board member for the European Association for Sport management (EASM). She regularly serves as chair at the North American and European sport management conferences.

  • Psychometrics
  • Using banned performance-enhancing substances/methods, moral reasoning and the practical application of the Integrated Social Contract Theory in competitive sport situations
  • Organisational culture and organisational change in post-socialist countries

Di Thomson

Title: Senior lecturer

Background: Di trained as a paediatric physiotherapist, subsequently furthering her academic career by gaining qualifications in psychodynamic counselling and more recently in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). She has an MSc in Behavioural Biology and Healthcare and more recently a PhD in Social Science using a qualitative research paradigm. She has worked as a senior lecturer in several universities and is at present dividing her time between Kings College London and St George's, University of London.

Di has accredited membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BAC) and the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF). She undertakes sessions in a GP practice and WPF in London where she is also a CBT assessor. She has combined her experience and interest in CBT and activity by contributing to programmes for patients with chronic pain. She has also run CBT programmes for qualified physiotherapists.

Research interests: Di has an interest in the psychosocial aspects of healthcare practice and has published extensively on this subject. She is therefore particularly interested in all aspects of health promotion, in particular in empowering people to stay healthy and how exercise can improve mental health.

Lisa Cole

Title: Senior lecturer

Background information: Lisa gained her BSc and MSc in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, Canada. Before studying her masters, Lisa had various roles within the fitness and athletics industry. As an AFLCA and YMCA trainer of leaders, she taught and assessed hundreds of students wishing to become certified as fitness instructors and personal trainers.

Research fields: Psycho-social oncology and psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), focusing on exercise and health.
