Miao joined Kingston in 1994 as a Visiting Scholar. She then completed a doctorate on International HRM in 2001.

Miao's research interests include internationalisation and HRM strategy in MNCs, the transfer of management practice in MNCs, HRM strategies in the MNCs operating in/from developing countries.
