Cultural Intersections Symposium
The European Research Centre runs the annual Cultural Intersections Symposium. The topic for the 2008 Symposium was 'Beyond Diasporas'. It looked at the cultural, social and political implications of diasporas (dispersed communities) within an interdisciplinary and international context, including:
- perceptions of 'beyond the diaspora';
- intergenerational differences among post-diasporic populations;
- ethnicity and post-diasporic experiences;
- issues in communication relating to post-diasporic experiences;
- 'beyond the diaspora' in literature, visual and digital art and cinema;
- material, spatial and visual trajectories/traces/sites of 'beyond diasporas';
- politics and post-diasporic experiences.
Conferences
Kingston University regularly hosts international conferences, such as:
- Issues of Community in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries;
- Successful Suburbs, Successful Cities; and
- Literary London.
Seminars and lectures
Our wide range of seminars and lectures includes:
- The Jon Lopategui Memorial Lectures – this annual lecture series has covered topics as varied as International Conflict and The Age of Spin; and
- The Vane Ivanovic Seminars and Lectures – addressing issues on the Balkans and the Near East.
