Human Rights MA: Links with business and industry
How we work with industry partners
Studying this course means you'll have opportunities to be involved with organisations outside the university - you can find out about them here.
Our links with professional practice provide a real-world base for our courses. They also help us to ensure your studies are kept up-to-date and relevant to the workplace.
The Human Rights MA has been developed in collaboration with a number of organisations committed to the defence and extension of human rights.
Work placement
As part of this course, you will have the opportunity to undertake a placement in a human rights organisation. This can take place during either semester one or two and lasts a minimum of 80 hours.
You choose an area connected to your overall career ambitions in either a governmental or non-governmental organisation. Previous placements include English PEN, Peace Brigades International (UK) and the World Development Movement.
You will have the opportunity to:
- experience, reflect upon and analyse the reality of working within a human rights organisation; and
- apply your knowledge, experience and analytical skills to reviewing the effectiveness of an aspect of the organisation's work.
We will provide you with support in:
- locating appropriate placement providers;
- approaching them; and
- securing the placement and negotiating your role.
Your course tutor will remain in touch with you throughout the placement.
