Duration This course runs from Spring to June 2013. It lasts for either five, 10 or 15 weeks depending on your English language ability:
 - the 15-week English course commences February 2013
 - the 10-week English course commences March 2013
 - the five-week English course commences April 2013
From June onwards, you can then continue your studies on the Intensive Pre-masters Preparation: Art & Design.

Choose Kingston's Intensive Pre-masters Preparation: English for Art & Design

This course is designed to develop international students' English skills to the level required for masters-level study in art, design or architecture at Kingston University.  

It is ideal if you have been made an offer for the Intensive Pre-masters Preparation: Art & Design, but have not yet achieved the necessary English language level.   

What will you study?

The full time, intensive English programme begins in February, March or April and varies in duration from 15 to five weeks depending on your English language level. The course will:

  • develop your academic English language skills;
  • develop your academic study skills for success at university, particularly in the area of art, design and architecture;
  • familiarise you with the learning and teaching methods used in art, design and architecture studies at a British university; and
  • introduce you to Kingston and the surrounding area.

The course consists of a full time programme of student centred, interactive classes; lectures; guided and independent study sessions, and individual tutorials. Classes in writing, reading, speaking and listening for university study are held weekdays from 9.00am–4.00pm and you will need to study independently outside of class time for 10 hours per week.

Assessment: You will be formatively assessed through regular coursework, and summatively assessed on five assignments testing writing, reading, speaking and listening. Our assessments are recognised by the UKBA. so you will not need to take an IELTS test at the end of the course.

Progression

You must pass this course to progress to the Intensive Pre-masters Preparation: Art & Design. To pass, you must:

  • attend a minimum of 80% of the course starting from the first day of the course; and 
  • achieve an overall grade of 50% and a minimum of 30% in each reading, writing, listening and speaking.
