Alex Dobiecki: "The knowledge and confidence to succeed in today's competitive business world"

Employer: Tesco Express
Course: Business Management MA*

*now discontinued but very similar to the International Business Management MSc

"After my undergraduate degree in Sports Science I decided that a masters degree would serve my needs, both educationally and also in terms of my career aims. I wanted to study at a new university, to meet people from other parts of the world and gain new experiences. What attracted me to Kingston were the international mix of students and the international emphasis of the course content, the latter being successfully achieved through the use of real life business case studies and project work focusing on the core areas of modern management.

"With the theory in place, I was able to put my learning into practice with a consultancy placement in Bangkok in Thailand, with a subsidiary of the alcoholic drinks company Diageo. It was an amazing experience, and enabled me to add something more than the qualification itself to a job interview – the knowledge and confidence to succeed in today's competitive business world.

"Today I work in a management position for the UK's largest retailer, Tesco. The Business Management MA* has enabled me to understand why my company has been so successful over recent years and will allow me to take forward what I have learned into my career and achieve my ultimate aim of running my own sports related company."
