Journalism MFA: Learning support

We want to make sure you get all the support you need while you are with us. Here you can see the range of support we can offer you while you're doing this course.

Students on this course are supported by:

• a module leader for each module;
• a course director to help you understand the programme structure;
• a personal tutor to provide academic and personal support;
• a dissertation supervisor;
• a designated course administrator; and
• a staff student consultative committee.

You will also be able to use the University's student support facilities which provide advice on issues such as finance, regulations, legal matters, disability and support, counselling, accommodation etc.

You will have access to the Careers and Employabilty Service who can help you with CV preparation, job applications and interview techniques. They also run a series of employment fairs and career focus events which can help you to make contact with employers and consider potential future career opportunties.

The Centre for Academic Support and Employability (CASE) provides extra support for students from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences who need help with study skills. For example, you might want to improve your writing, revision or assessment skills. Students who attend CASE tend to do better in their degree than those who don't.

Graduate Centres

All postgraduate students at Kingston have access to the Graduate Centres, dedicated spaces for graduate students. These are ideal for private study or holding meetings. Find out more in the Facilities section.

Web-based support

StudySpace is an online learning management system which is a potentially limitless resource for lecture notes and interactive teaching including:

• access to course materials – such as lecture notes, backup materials, presentations and previous exam papers;
• online chatrooms and bulletin boards – so you can interact with staff and other students; and
• multimedia features – such as video tutorials.

Because you can use StudySpace from any internet-enabled computer at any time, you can choose when and where you study.

My Kingston is the University's comprehensive, user-friendly intranet site, providing you with everything you need to know about student life.

Language support

International students can access plenty of language support, both before and during the course:

• Pre-sessional English language course – improve your English language skills and learn about study methods and life in the UK.
• English language development programme – after you enrol, this free programme offers a range of academic English courses and tutorial support throughout the academic year.
