Mayra Ruiz Arellano

Mayra Ruiz Arellano: "Studying at Kingston University has been one of the best decisions I have made"

Course: International Supply Chain and Logistics Management MA (now MSc)

"I recently concluded my Supply Chain and Logistics Management MA at Kingston University and this has been one of the most challenging and greatest experiences of my life.

I decided to study this course because supply chain management is a crucial part in the business processes of any organisation, furthermore because Mexico (the country I am from) plays an important part in the import and export of goods worldwide. Therefore a Supply Chain Management MA helped me broaden my understanding on the subject with realistic and modern theories to implement back home.

I chose Kingston University because of its excellent reputation and high quality courses. It offered me lots of facilities to carry on my studies at all levels: IT resources, excellent location, great lecturers and the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world.

This course encouraged self-determination, inspiration and personal and professional development. Therefore studying at Kingston University has been one of the best decisions I have made."

Alexandros Loumanis

Alexandros Loumanis: "The University's good reputation provided me with a competitive advantage compared to other candidates"

Course:  International Supply Chain and Logistics Management MA (now MSc)
Year of graduation:  2009
Current position: Market developer, Coca Cola Hellenic Group, Greece

"Following the successful completion of my postgraduate studies at Kingston University in International Supply Chain and Logistics Management I was keen to pursue a professional career back in my home country, Greece.

After my graduation, I secured a position with the graduate scheme programme at Larinos SA, a leading company in the sector of quarry exploitation and the production of ready-mixed concrete, rotating between the sales, accounting and procurement departments.

Currently, I work as a market developer at Coca-Cola Hellenic Group, one of the world's largest bottlers and vendors of The Coca-Cola Company. The structure and philosophy of the postgraduate course at Kingston University has provided me with the necessary skills to meet the demands of such a large multinational organisation, like Coca Cola.

The company's senior management who participated in the early stages of the interview process were impressed to see a highly respected academic institution like Kingston University on my CV and a masters degree tailored to the company's needs, like that of International Supply and Logistics Management. In my application, they saw the commitment they were looking for and offered me in return trust and an opportunity I was looking for to further my career. The University's good reputation provided me with a competitive advantage compared to other candidates.

Overall, studying at Kingston University enhanced my academic knowledge and professional skills. The University can offer students higher education at both a theoretical and a practical level, which is very important for the logistics industry. The University strives for excellence in learning, teaching and research. The best example of this is the excellent feedback it receives from its past students for its staff and innovative educational system, based in knowledge, modern resources, new technologies and the interaction with different people and cultures."

Murat Dogan

Murat Dogan: "The necessary knowledge and skills I need to confidently start my career"

Course:  International Supply Chain and Logistics Management MA (now MSc)
Year of graduation:  2011

"In an increasingly globalised world, the manufacturing business is now more complicated than it was when 'production' was the source of power for businesses and the centre of both academic and executive attention. A smaller world supported by communication technologies has changed the focus of businesses nowadays. The question: 'how to make it?' has become, 'where to make it?' and opened up new decisions for executives as they now need to decide whether it is better to make their own products or to source them elsewhere.

In this environment, supply chain and logistics decisions play a crucial role as production functions can easily be shifted to another part of the world. The importance of the area has been increasing along with globalisation and this new knowledge is crucial in the current business environment. As an industrial engineer, I decided to extend my knowledge and gain new skills in the supply chain and logistics area to prepare myself for the demands of this fast changing global market place."

Kingston University provided me with an environment to face my strengths and weaknesses, and gave me the support needed to develop my knowledge so I can meet current business requirements. The modern facilities, supportive lecturers and, most importantly, practise-focused projects offered by the Business School have equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills I need to confidently start my career."

Kingston University supports our graduates with the new Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa. This allows non-EEA graduates who have an outstanding business idea to put into practice in the UK, and who do not have a job offer, the opportunity to stay in the UK for up to 12 months (which might be extended for an additional 12 months).
