Management and Business Studies Research MSc: Entry requirements

What you need to apply for this course

We welcome applications from those who possess:

  • a good honours degree (usually 2:1 or above) OR a masters degree, or equivalent, in either general management or a business-related subject; and
  • academic references.

In addition, you will be expected to provide evidence of your ability to meet the high intellectual and personal demands of the course.

In exceptional cases, if you do not meet the formal entry criteria you may still be considered provided you can show exceptional qualities in terms of:

  • at least five years' business experience, preferably at a professional or managerial level;
  • the intellectual capacity to deal with the demands of the programme;
  • evidence of interest in and pursuit of continuing professional development; and
  • personal or career-related benefits that could be derived from participation in the programme.

Holders of non-UK degrees will be subject to the University's normal entry procedures for equivalence of qualifications.

What next?

Suitable candidates will be invited to attend a selection conference (which takes the form of a presentation about the programme) and a formal personal interview. At the interview, you should show how this programme will meet your career or developmental needs and demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of current thinking in one or more areas of management.

International students

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 7.0 overall with special conditions in all elements. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
