Management Studies PgDip/MA top-up: Attendance and timetables
When does teaching take place?
The Kingston DMS takes two years to complete through part-time weekend attendance, starting each February and September:
- Normally over six weekends each year
- Years 1 and 2: Saturdays and Sundays from 9.00am to 6.00pm
The MA in Management Studies takes a further year to complete, starting each February and September:
- One weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in February or September, 10.00am to 6.00pm each day
- One Saturday in March or October, 9.00am to 6.00pm
- One Saturday in May or December, 10.00 am to 6.00 pm
No further attendance sessions are needed. Instead you work in supported self-study on your dissertation.
Programme content
Year 1: The programme starts with Induction, designed to introduce you to:
- your fellow students and the Kingston staff;
- the Kingston Business School facilities;
- the ethos and expectations of the programme; and
- the subjects to be studied later on.
Following induction, you will follow a set of modules that focus on the primary business functions. You will develop evaluative, analytical and personal management skills.
- Financial Resource Management
- Managing Operations
- Managing People and Organisations
- Marketing
Year 2: The functional concepts and skills gained in Year 1 are further developed and integrated. You will acquire the skills to take a strategic and holistic perspective of your organisation.
You take two core modules and two option modules. The electives allow you to focus on a specialist business area.

Option modules – choose two from:
- Creative Leadership
- Entrepreneurial Management
- Financial Management
- Human Resource Management
- International Management
- Managing in the Public and Not for Profit Sector
Please note that the list is indicative. The final list will depend upon students' choices and therefore not all of these will run each year.
Management Studies MA top-up: The Research Methods and Dissertation module will give you a grounding in research methods in preparation for your dissertation. Following this, you will work in independent self-study with the support of an academic supervisor, who will guide you through the dissertation process.
