What this course offers you

If you choose to study this course, here are some of the things you can expect from the course and how it will benefit you.

  • This course provides an interdisciplinary study of museums and galleries. It offers a range of approaches to teaching and assessment based on the concept of creative research, including creative project work and practice-based research opportunities.
  • The dissertation allows you to develop your own interests and gain valuable research skills.
  • Field visits and activities supplement your lectures and seminars. Possible international destinations include New York, Washington DC, Paris, Toronto, as well as cities in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
  • Alongside your academic studies, you develop workplace skills in:
    • problem solving and organisation;
    • data collation, review and synopsis;
    • communication (oral, written and electronic);
    • time management;
    • computing; and
    • collaboration and teamwork.
  • We offer a part-time study option to help you fit your MA around other commitments.
  • We are also developing a work-based learning version of this course entitled Museum and Gallery Studies (Professional Practice) MA.
