What this course offers you

  • The course offers an extended period of time (17-months full-time and 29 months part-time) to develop a major body of practical work for exhibition and publication.
  • The course is practice-led with an interdisciplinary approach to the medium engaging with the social role of the photographic.
  • No limits placed on creativity as we understand the photographic as a medium in its widest sense and encourage students to experiment with a wide range of approaches and practices in unexpected and innovative ways. 
  • Practice is underpinned by a thorough understanding of the critical and historical frameworks within which visual culture and the photographic can be understood and conceptualised.
  • Access to all Art School workshops including 3-D sculpture, printmaking, animation, bookmaking as well as our new state-of-the art film and photo facilities.
  • Highly tailored and bespoke support throughout to nurture and build student's evolving practice and ownership of their ideas.
  • Regular weekly contact with an experienced group of research active academic and technical staff.
  • Located within the new department of Film and Photography (includes the research group The Visual Institute) in one of the oldest art schools in the UK.
  • Part of wider culture of Kingston University, which includes the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP).
  • Supports and encourage collaborations and interdisciplinary exchanges within the wider culture of Kingston University
  • Equips students to play a positive role in the fast-moving arena of image making and find outlets for your work in a variety of forms and organisations.
  • Opportunity to exhibit your work and take part in off-site visits to galleries, photography festivals and other cultural spaces, as well as study tours.
