Primary Teaching leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) PGCE: Entry requirements

What you need to apply for this course

Statutory entry requirements

  • An honours first degree of UK higher education institution or equivalent overseas qualification
  • GCSE grade 4 and above (or C and above for examinations taken prior to 2017) in mathematics, English and one science subject. Equivalency tests will be considered from recognised institutions if GCSEs are not held. However, you need to show on your application that these qualifications will be obtained before the course begins in September.
  • A pass in the Professional Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy before commencing their course. More information on this can be found on the Get into Teaching website. At Kingston we offer free support sessions to help you to pass these tests.
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service and Health checking process identifies no concerns about suitability to teach.

Additional entry requirement

If you're offered a place on a teacher training course, it's recommended that you spend time in a school in your chosen age phase to familiarise yourselves with the demands and expectations of teaching.

Note that you apply through UCAS Teacher Training for this course.
