Primary Teaching leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) PGCE: Entry requirements

What you need to apply for this course

Typical offer

  • An honours first degree of UK higher education institution or equivalent overseas qualification
  • GCSE grade 4 and above (or C for examinations taken prior to 2017) in mathematics, English and one science subject. Equivalency tests will be considered from recognised institutions if GCSEs are not held. However, you will need to show on your application that you will obtain these qualifications before the course begins in September)
  • A pass the Professional Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy before commencing their course. More information on this can be found here. At Kingston we offer free support sessions to help you to pass these tests.
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service and Health checking process identifies no concerns about suitability to teach

Additional entry requirement

To ensure that their decision is informed and has been carefully considered, and to demonstrate a commitment to teaching, candidates will be expected to spend between 20-25 hours in a primary classroom prior to starting the course to become familiar with the demands and expectations of primary teaching.
