Professional Engineering MSc: Entry requirements
What you need to apply for this course
Entry to the Professional Engineering MSc normally requires the completion of an accredited BSc/BEng(Hons) degree. Those without such a degree but with suitable industrial experience, may join the MSc subject to assessment.
As the course is designed to take participants directly to CEng status, participants must also have significant engineering experience. (Engineers applying for CEng status need to have demonstrated the ability to apply their engineering knowledge within a practical engineering environment.) For those who have an accredited first degree (either BEng or BSc) we require a minimum of two years' relevant industrial or engineering experience. For those without such a degree, we will require a greater amount of industrial experience.
Prior credit
You may be able to incorporate any prior certificated learning at an equivalent level which has not already contributed towards any other award.
For example, students who have studied with the Open University often take a few extra modules that are not used to accumulate credits for their undergraduate degree. It may be possible to include 15, or possibly 30, Level 3 credits towards the MSc award, provided that the module topics are relevant to the overall programme.
International students
All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall, with special conditions in all elements. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.
Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.
Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
