Professional Practice (Design) MA: Events and lectures

Professional practice events and opportunities

The course is based on an individual Learning Agreement, and so does not have a set programme of lectures.

There are, however, always interesting events and activities taking place at Kingston, and exciting opportunities to take advantage of. Having access to a broad range of events and lectures in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture enhances your studies and adds an extra perspective to your learning. Here are some recent examples.

The School of Art and Design History's Autumn 2010 research seminar series included speakers such as Professor Daniel Miller (University of London) discussing his major international project investigating the cultural significance of denim, and Professor Guy Julier (Leeds Metropolitan University) discussing his work on design activism.

Leading graphic designer and typographer Jonathan Barnbrook gave a visiting lecture to the Faculty in February 2010, exploring his career to date.

The annual Stanley Picker Fellowship programme sees leading art and design practitioners work alongside staff and students in the Faculty on new creative projects Fellowships culminate in a public exhibition in the Stanley Picker Gallery (www.stanleypickergallery.org).

In September 2007, the School of Art and Design History hosted the Annual Conference of the Design History Society. Entitled 'Design/Body/Sense', the conference explored the physical and sensual histories and experiences of design.
