The MA provides a focus for research in psychoanalysis and culture across a range of disciplines clustered particularly in the School of Performance and Screen Studies, School of Humanities, London Graduate School and the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP).
Alongside associate members of the London Society of the New Lacanian School, staff members include Professor Scott Wilson (leading the initiative), Professor Peter Buse, Professor Sam Weber, Professor Ken McCullen, Professor Hanif Kureishi.
The MA will provide a route to the study of PhDs in these disciplines, joining students already studying for PhDs in psychoanalysis in the School of Performance and Screen Studies and London Graduate School. It will lead developments in the field, contributing to the innovative theoretical and conceptual developments arising out of clinical practice in the Freudian field particularly research associated with the journal Culture / Clinic: Applied Lacanian Psychoanalysis (University of Minnesota Press) edited by Jacques-Alain Miller and Maire Jaanus of which Scott Wilson is an important contributor and board member.
CRMEP holds an essential archive in L'Cahiers pour l'Analyse which will provide a key resource for the MA and PhD. The Centre also holds an important Wellcome Institute Grant in the relation between European Philosophy and Psychoanalysis.
Studentships have been available for PhD research in this area for the past four years. The University is in receipt of an AHRC block grant.
