Rehabilitation PgDip/MSc: Frequently asked questions

FAQs about the Rehabilitation MSc

How large is a cohort?

As a course we are growing, but numbers are not expected to exceed 20 in any given cohort. The cohort will be inter-professional and you should expect your fellow students to come from a wide area of different professional roles in rehabilitation.

How many hours of input do students require outside class contact sessions?

You are expected to match the number of taught hours with individual effort, but this varies considerably. For example, the project module has very little taught component and the majority is carried out in directed study or independent study time. For a 15 credit module you should normally expect to carry out approximately 150 hours of effort made up of taught hours, directed study and independent study.

Is there a practice-based element to the programme?

There is no formal practice-based element organised for the course. However, it is understood that all students enrolled for the part-time route will be working in a rehabilitation setting whilst on the course.

The Rehabilitation Context Module aims to enable students to develop the skills of reflective practice to support individual learning needs in the context of rehabilitation relative to your own work area. A key element is an individually designed learning contract which is applied specifically to your work context. This is supported by an educational mentor from the Faculty.

Does the course involve online based learning?

StudySpace is a computer-assisted (web-based) learning management system, which is used for learning and teaching purposes within the Faculty. As you progress through the course you will be required to use the StudySpace facilities to support your learning.

StudySpace allows staff to make a wide range of teaching resources available online. Materials may include module guides, lecture notes, overheads and even sound and video clips, although the module leader determines the level of content. The module leader may enable a variety of other tools, which could include online discussion forums (bulletin boards), a virtual classroom and a drop box (online submission of coursework).
