This course is taught by staff in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, with colleagues from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing and the Faculty of Business and Law. In particular, it integrates teaching and research expertise from the Schools of Geography, Geology and the Environment; Surveying and Planning; and Law. 

Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture

The Faculty has its roots in the studio-based approach of Britain's art school system (the original School of Art was founded in the 1890s).

Today, most of your learning still takes place in our specialist studios. Each subject area has its own fully-equipped studio, where you take part in classes, tutorials and critical reviews with fellow students. This strong studio culture also ensures regular interaction between students and tutors.

Our industry connections mean we provide unique study opportunities, such as:

Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing teaches this course. Sarah Sayce

Title: Head of School

Sarah became an academic after several years in practice as a Chartered Surveyor. Now Head of School, she is also a leading published academic and for many years has specialised in the field of leisure property and more recently sustainable property. She has written several books and numerous conference and journal papers, plus sits on three journal editorial boards.

Sarah chairs the School's Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning – C-SCAIPE (Centre for Sustainable Communities Achieved through Integrated Professional Education). She also retains contact with the RICS by acting as an APC assessor and as an elected member of the RICS International Governing Council.

Amanda Lewis

Title: Director of C-SCAIPE

Amanda is a qualified architect and also holds an RICS-accredited award. She has extensive practice experience, working both in large practices and on her own account. Her current research interests include sustainability and pedagogic issues, both in relation to the built environment professions. She sits on a number of University and Faculty committees in these fields.

Dr Silvia Gullino

Title: Lecturer

Silvia is an architect by training. She also has a European masters degree in Environmental Engineering from the Politecnico of Torino and a PhD from the Politecnico of Milano for a thesis on the experiences of sustainable urban regeneration in the UK.

The focus of her project was 'The Millennium Villages, the Sustainable Communities Initiatives and the New Labour Urban Agenda'. Recently she has undertaken visiting posts at both King's College London and the Politecnico of Milano, specialising in urban regeneration.

Silvia joins the team to teach on the spatial planning courses and brings with her a wealth of international research knowledge and experience.

Charlotte Harris

Title:  Field leader in planning and sustainability

Charlotte is a Chartered Town Planner with a breadth of experience in the planning field. After some years working in local authority planning and in the Caribbean, she turned to planning education and curriculum development on surveying, property development and housing management programmes. Charlotte also worked briefly for the RICS as a project manager for its planning and development faculty, developing strong working links with both RICS and RTPI members.

Her particular interests are strategic planning, successful place making and urban design, people and planning, community involvement, and wider access to educational achievement.
