Sustainable Place Making and Urban Design MA: Research areas

Current research in this subject

Many of the staff in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture are research active. This ensures they are in touch with the latest thinking and bring best practice to your studies.

The Sustainable Design Research Group  (part of the Design Research Centre) is leading projects that connect design and designers with sustainability issues. Recent research projects have focused on:

  • designing and manufacturing with recycled materials;
  • building a 'sustainable materials' library for designers; and
  • air quality and its impact on the health of building occupants.

The Real Estate Research Centre focuses on specialist areas related to the valuation, appraisal and management of property, including:

  • a qualitative and reflective approach to the role of appraisal and management of land and buildings; and
  • relating professional activity to changing social and political agendas.

The researchers frequently use the context of either leisure or sustainable properties as the exemplar for their studies.
