New digital media courses from Digital Media Kingston

Digital Media Kingston is an interdisciplinary project across the faculties of Art, Design and Architecture, Arts and Social Sciences, Computing, Information Systems and Maths and Science. It aims to bring together diverse and heterogenous expertise and resources in digital media, providing a collaborative focus for the varied teaching, research and enterprise activities currently taking place within the University.

In the fast-growing digital industries, people with creative and technical backgrounds work together. However, students from arts and computing for example, often don’t have the opportunity to collaborate on projects until they meet in the world of work.

Kingston University aims to fill this digital media skills gap by breaking down the barriers between the arts and sciences, creating a diverse and lively collaborative workforce that understands each other's needs.

We offer a unique portfolio of new cross-faculty courses to encourage collaborative innovation and enhance students' practical skills:

We are also planning a course in special effects in 2010, with more to follow.

These courses utilise the best digital media expertise and resources from across the four faculties of Art, Design and Architecture, Arts and Social Sciences, Computing, Information Systems and Mathematics and Science.

You will benefit from our proven expertise, teaching and research excellence in the digital arts, as well as our excellent links with business and industry. These courses have been developed in consultation with our industry panel which includes representatives from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, DreamWorks and Samsung Design Europe. This relationship ensures an industry-focused learning experience, and work placements, real projects and internships will arm you for entry into the highly competitive digital media arena.

In addition, we have over 20 existing postgraduate courses across the faculties involved, covering subjects as diverse as software engineering; art and space; filmmaking; popular music; web development; informatics; and screen design for film and TV.

The courses are the first part of the broader Digital Media Kingston project. This project brings together the broad-ranging digital media activity within the University to provide academic focus for future disciplinary developments.
