Access to Learning Fund (ALF)

Home students who face unexpected financial difficulties while at university may be eligible to receive a non-repayable award from the Access to Learning Fund (ALF).

This government funding is distributed by the Student Funding Service. It is not available until you have started your course.

Payments may be used to help with course costs, travel, childcare costs or general living costs. However, the ALF cannot be used to help pay tuition fees.

Full- and part-time students on standard, sandwich or franchised courses who meet the residency criteria can apply to receive funding from the ALF. All applications are means-tested and proof of income and expenditure are required.

The fund is discretionary so not all students who apply will receive an award.

Applications for the ALF at Kingston University are accepted from mid-October until 10 July or whenever the fund is fully allocated, whichever occurs first. More information about the fund can be found on MyKingston, the student intranet, once you have enrolled.
