Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)

The Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) is not means tested. The amount that you will receive depends entirely on the nature of your disability and the extra costs that you have.

How to apply

You can apply for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) before you begin your course. Please contact Student Finance England for details.

An assessment of your disability will be made and a report sent to Student Finance England who will allocate an amount according to your need.

Postgraduate disabled students can claim a DSA of up to £20,000* depending on the level of additional support identified in the needs assessment.

You may also be able to obtain help with your travel expenses if they are higher as a result of your disability.

For full information and a downloadable guide to funding for disabled students, please contact the Disability Team in the Student Life Centre.

*Please note that these are the 2019/20 figures.
