Overview

Noha Mellor is Reader in Media & Cultural Studies, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences. She is also the author of The Making of Arab News (2005), Modern Arab Journalism (2007), Arab Journalists in Transnational Media (2011) and Arab Media Industries (2011).

Her main research interest is journalism, media and diversity and media and gender. Besides her academic experience, she has previous professional experience in journalism as a news producer both for Danmarks Radio (Danish Broadcasting) and the BBC World Service. She is still a regular contributor to international media publications such as the New York Times and Financial Times.

Egyptian by birth, she also contributes her expertise in Arab journalism and societies to current trans-national initiatives to promote peace, e.g. her contribution to the media Initiative of the EUROMED (EU partnership with Mediterranean countries) as well as the Alliance of Civilizations Initiative under the auspices of the UN. 

She has been an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and is a member of the Arab International Women Forum, Arab Creative Women, and the Empowering Women of Middle East And North Africa Group.

Media Highlights

An accomplished journalist, Noha has done numerous media interviews, most recently on the current political climate in Egypt. In January 2012  she was a guest on "Seven Days", the BBC Arabic programme, which reviews a week of media coverage in the Arab world and compares it with the coverage afforded the same topics by the British and American press.
