Overview
Jeremy is a senior lecturer in modern British history at Kingston University. His research interests and teaching cover the history of politics, ideas and society in nineteenth and twentieth century Britain.
"I am particularly interested in the issue of 'ordinary' people's potential; in what ways have opportunities for the fulfilment of a person's educational, emotional and moral potential, and their achievement of happiness, increased or been restricted through time?
In 2006 his book "Psychological Socialism: the Labour Party and qualities of mind and character, 1931 to the present" was published. This book sought to discuss how in modern British political and socialist history people's (leaders and led) psychological and moral characteristics may enhance or limit the achievement of a more equal and/ or caring society. He is currently working on the idea of opportunity in British political history since 1945, as well as exploring the issue of people's psychological potential from the Victorian age of improving 'character' to the present age of expressing 'personality'
