Overview
Jonathan Gilmore is a senior lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Kingston University. He holds an MA and a PhD from the University of Manchester and has worked at Kingston since 2008.
His main research interest is humanitarian intervention - the use of military force to protect human rights overseas. This research has focussed on the ways in which national militaries have adapted their doctrine and practices to perform these kinds of roles. Most recently, his research has examined the ways in which War on Terror counterinsurgency programmes may have led to a shift in attitudes about the conduct and ethos of the military. In a wider sense, he is happy to comment on civil war, US and UK defence and security policy, recent humanitarian interventions, counterinsurgency and the War on Terror.
He is an occasional blogger for the Huffington Post on-line news site: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/dr-jonathan-gilmore/
