Overview
John is a leading researcher on personal insolvency law and bankruptcy history in the UK and is published widely on both subjects. He has a special interest in 17th century debtor treatment. In 2006 he gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament on bankruptcy reform. John has taught company law as a visiting lecturer at Beijing Normal University and taught insolvency law as a guest teacher at the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London. He has also completed a number of reports for the Insolvency Service, and is an experienced media commentator, having appeared on BBC television and been quoted in the national press.

John has also had numerous research and conference papers and reports published.
Media Highlights
John is an experienced media commentator. He has appeared on primetime BBC television discussing the history of bankruptcy and his work has been cited in the broadsheet newspapers on a number of occasions.
John was interviewed by Dominic Littlewood for the peak time BBC One television programme, "The One Show" on the 14th July 2008. The piece, on bankruptcy history, bankruptcy policy and debtor treatment was aired on 2nd September 2008 at 7.00pm on BBC One.
John has also appeared on Sky Television. He was invited to appear on Sky's LegalTV, Called to the Bar programme for a topical forum on bankruptcy. (20/03/06: 2.00pm-3.00pm).
Professional Body Membership
John is an executive of the Society of Legal Scholars, which is a learned society for those who teach law in a university or similar institute or who are otherwise engaged in legal scholarship. The Executive Committee manages the affairs of the Society.
He has also recently been appointed to two prestigious publications boards. His Honour Judge Abbas Mithani QC has appointed John to the board of Mithani: Directors Disqualification, the leading looseleaf practitioners' text on directors' disqualification which is published by LexisNexis. John joins, amongst others, the Right Honourable Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the Mater of the Rolls and Head of Civil Justice and the Honorable Mr Justice Newey on the advisory board.
He has also been appointed as a Consultant Editor to Jordan Publishing's Bankruptcy and Personal Insolvency Reports (BPIR). The BPIR law reports are the leading insolvency reports in the country. John joins Stephen Davies QC and other leading practitioners.
Academic Accolades
John was shortlisted (one of five candidates) for the Law Teacher of the Year Award 2008.
