Overview
Chris Cairns is Professor of Pharmacy Practice within the University's prestigious School of Pharmacy and Chemistry. You will often find him in the University's new £420,000 Pharmacy Practice Laboratory, a purpose-built facility for pharmacy students to practice their skills before going to work in the health service.
Professor Cairns lectures on pharmacy practice, pharmacy law and ethics, clinical pharmacy, clinical pharmacokinetics (determining optimal dosage to maximise benefit and minimise toxic effects) and pharmacovigilance (the ongoing safety profile surveillance of marketed medicines).
His research interests include medicine safety, pharmaceutical outcomes, medicines in older people, research ethics, drug utilisation, medicines management, healthcare ethics and swine flu.
