Overview
Andy Rankin is professor of Applied Geology and Co-ordinator of Enterprise Activities in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing at Kingston University.
He has over thirty five years experience of applied geological, mineralogical and geochemical research, consultancy and CPD course development, with a focus on the characterisation, evaluation and development (including environmental impacts) of Earth's mineral and energy resources. These include base and precious metal deposits, gemstones, industrial minerals, geothermal energy resources and unconventional hydrocarbon resources.
Prior to his appointment at Kingston University he was Reader in Applied Mineralogy and Head of the Fluid Process Research Group at the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London.
He is a past president and trustee of the Mineralogical Association and past chair of the Committee of UK and Eire University Geoscience Departments. Currently, he is president of the Gemmological Association, an associate advisor for the Training Design Group of the British Council, and a member of the Scientific Advisory panel for C-Questor plc.
