Ambassadors in Schools

This programme brings undergraduate students together with pupils from local schools.

It aims to inspire pupils to enter higher education and is particularly suitable for those who have the ability to progress to higher education but might not have considered doing so because of their background or experience.

Please note you will need to make your own way to us for the university visit.

Activity outline

A group of 40 Year 10 pupils enrol on the programme, which runs over three sessions (with an optional fourth) during an academic year. Each session develops the relationship between the Student Ambassadors and pupils.

This year we are introducing an e-mentoring element to the programme. Each pupil involved will have the opportunity to be mentored  (via a secure e-mentoring site) throughout the academic year by a Student Ambassador who will also be working during the face to face sessions.

  • Session 1: The Student Ambassadors visit your school to meet the identified students and encourage discussion about student life, progression and the opportunities higher education can bring.
  • Session 2: The Ambassadors revisit the group at their school and deliver activities relating to independent learning skills and barriers that they may face to enter higher education and the broad range of opportunities available to them post-16.
  • Session 3: The group visits the Ambassadors at Kingston University (you will need to make your own way to us) where they have the chance to explore the campus and work on a mini-research project with staff from our Learning Resources Centre that tackles issues of plagiarism and use of the internet. The session will start at 9.30am and finish at 12.00noon.
  • Session 4: The final part of the programme is an optional extra session, in which the Student Ambassadors visit your school to research and take part in a live debate about higher education with pupils. The session will last for two and half hours and we will need the school to provide computer access for its pupils during this time.
