Next Steps
New for 2011/12 our Next Steps e-mentoring programme gives post-16 pupils the opportunity to be mentored by a current Kingston University student throughout the course of an academic year, in particular during their higher education decision-making process.
We have developed a special e-mentoring website with Brightside which will enable mentors to give mentees advice and guidance via a secure, online space at a time that suits them.
In addition to e-mentoring, mentors will also visit your school/college at the start of the programme to introduce themselves, the scheme and demonstrate how the e-mentoring site works.
Mentees will also have the opportunity to visit the University with their mentors to have a tour of the campus and a HE talk.
Mentors will be able to assist mentees in the following areas:
- choosing the right university and making the right course choice;
- UCAS application process, including writing a good personal statement;
- study skills;
- student finance; and
- finding out about university life.
Each participating school/college can select a maximum of 40 pupils to take part in the programme.
We are particularly interested in working with the following groups of students on this project:
- BME groups;
- vocational learners;
- lower socio-economic groups;
- disabled students; and
- care leavers.
Mentees will be matched with mentors who have similar backgrounds and interests to themselves. Please fill out the expression of interest form below if you are interested in this programme and we will contact you with further information.
