Subject-specific activities in economics

Help your students enhance their understanding of economics with the professional and research experience of our highly rated academic staff.

Our economics activities are primarily aimed at Year 12 students who may be considering further study in economics or a related field.

The following sessions can be delivered either in school/college or at Kingston University (please specify at booking which you prefer):

Studying economics at university

  • Year group: Year 12
  • Date and time: Various dates, approximately 1 hour

Students with an interest in studying economics will find out about the options available and where it can lead. They will learn about the different module options offered and the ability to combine with other areas of study. This talk also gives an introduction to the type of learning done at university including the lecture/seminar structure, preparation for seminars and the use of study materials. Where possible students will also have the opportunity to put their questions to a current economics student at Kingston.

Model lecture and seminar

  • Year group: Year 12
  • Date and time: Various dates, approximately 2 hours

Students attend a lecture and seminar session (on a topic to be agreed) as they would be delivered to university students. This provides invaluable experience of note-making and synthesis of materials both from the lecture itself and from their own background reading on the subject. The model seminar provides the opportunity for a small-group exploration of a key economic model and a discussion of the topic as it applies to the 'real world', usually based around a short activity.
