Research expertise and resources to share

We can share our research expertise and resources through various partnerships, grant schemes and activities at Kingston University. Our experienced advisors have specialised knowledge of the latest opportunities currently available in each faculty. They can help connect your business or organisation to the best intellectual and physical resources to help find solutions and achieve good business and community related outcomes.

Consultancy and contract research

Academic experts or researchers can undertake major projects for larger companies. With expertise in a number of areas and access to cutting-edge facilities, our technical consultancy services can help you make the best use of the latest technology. Whether you are looking to improve your IT systems or perfect your manufacturing processes, we are ideally placed to help.

Costs will vary according to the scope of the research and development work and the scale and duration of the assignment. Kingston University Enterprises Limited (KUEL) supports and oversees these contractual arrangements.

Collaborative research

When you need to be part of a much larger scope project which links your business research needs with your sector and a government organisation you can do this with Kingston University and attract government funding. Collaborative research projects and scholarship usually contribute to new professional knowledge in many fields.

At least two partners will be involved in addition to the university, one of which is a government or public body. We can help create and support such collaborations which benefit not only your organisation but the economy generally.

Research centres

Kingston University is a major centre of excellence for research in many areas. The latest government Research Assessment Exercise (2008) rated 70% of our research submissions as excellent at international level. There are more than 20 research centres specialising in areas including digital imaging, materials science, design and environmental and earth sciences.

The Centre for Economic Research and Intelligence (CERI) has brought together a multi-disciplinary team of experts to work on a wide range of projects. It aims to enhance operational and strategic decision making and policy in both the public and private sectors. The Business-to-Business Marketing, Human Resources and the Small Business Research Centres may also be of particular interest to your business.

PhD/Masters studentships

Studentships can be set up through one of the seven Research Councils or the Arts and Humanities Research Board. Competition amongst students is fierce; our advisors can help arrange sponsored studentships, where your company gets the prestige and recognition of sponsoring an outstanding student, and benefitting from the results of the work.

Business placement fellows

Companies can get funding of up to 50% for research and work on business-specific projects. Areas covered include energy, financial services, health technologies, retail, creative industries, leisure and tourism, and sport. An academic or company executive will work for up to a year on this UK-wide scheme from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Government placement fellows

Government departments and agencies across the UK qualify for this research council-funded programme. A social science researcher or member of staff from a government partner will provide research-informed evidence to develop and review policy and expand networks. Grants of up to 50% are available from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
