Course information

Why do this course?

This is the required course for all non-teachers who support physical education in primary schools. It is specifically designed to meet the needs of coaches, learning assistants and graduate assistants. For further information on guidance issued to headteachers read the Joint Partners Statement.

Course description

The qualification is perfect if you already work, or aspire to work, in a physical education and school sport setting as it specifically designed to provide you with a greater understanding of programmes of study for physical education, the national curriculum and the environment in which you will be operating.

Course structure

There are eight units:

  1. Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  2. Schools as organisations
  3. Understand child and young person development
  4. Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people
  5. Support assessment for learning
  6. Plan physical education and school sport programmes
  7. Deliver physical education and school sport programmes
  8. Review the delivery of a physical education and school sport programme.

What will you take away?

You will be supported to work through all the tasks required to complete the course. There are a number of tasks attached to each unit. Upon completion of the course, you will receive your 1st4Sport Level 3 Certificate.

Prerequisites

You need to be 16 years of age; hold a Level 2 physical education or sport-related qualification, (examples include the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport (QCF), GCSE in Physical Education (grade A–C), etc); and be able to effectively communicate in English prior to registering for the qualification.

Notebook, tablet (recommended), laptop. Each day has a practical component so wear kit.

Fees

It is recommended that schools use their Sports Premium to support their PE delivery personnel in enrolling on this course.
