Course information

Why do this course?

This short course is aimed at science teachers currently working in the early years. It is ideal if you are looking for a theoretical underpinning of science teaching and assessment. In a workshop environment, you will also be introduced to a tool that can be used to observe and assess science in the early years and have the opportunity to trial the tool in the setting and gain valuable peer feedback.

Course description

This course consists of three workshops which will run for two hours each, over a period of three weeks. Between sessions two and three a two week break is planned to ensure students have sufficient time to trial and evaluate the assessment tool.

  • Session 1: Theoretical underpinning
  • Session 2: Introduction to a model and the tool. Opportunity to use the tool in practice
  • Session 3: Feedback and evaluation of the tool and science teaching in the early years

What will you take away?

You will be able to take away the tool to use in your own settings.
