Course information

Why do this course?

This course will qualify you to be a recognised paediatric first aider within the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. Knowledge of first aid is also a valuable life skill.

Course description

The course consists of two units:

  • Unit 1: Emergency paediatric first aid
  • Unit 2: Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies.

Assessment of both units will include both practical demonstration and written assessment. Topic areas covered within this qualification meet the requirements for paediatric first aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 as being important to maintaining safe and effective practice when providing treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel. This course meets the requirements of Ofsted.

Course structure

The qualification has a minimum contact time of 12 hours and will run over two days or six evening sessions of two hours each. Learners must undertake an ongoing practical assessment demonstrating a range of practical first aid skills along with completion of a short open response knowledge assessment, where learners are required to complete a short answer paper linking theory to practice.

What will you take away?

Course fees include a full-colour handbook and certification. This qualification lasts for a period of three years, after which point learners will be required to retake the course.

Prerequisites

Learners are required to be 16 years of age prior to certification. It is also advised that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy and numeracy.
