Why do this course?

This study day is a joint venture between Kingston University and the International Association for Forensic Radiographers (IAFR). It will be of practical use to all inter-agency professions involved in a major incident.

Course description

The aim of the study day is to:

  • outline the multi-agency response to a major incident;
  • the process of victim identification;
  • gain an insight into the experiences of a survivor; and
  • understand post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Course structure

Case studies will be presented by various academics and professionals across different specialisms.

Programme (to include):

  • the widening role of emergency services response to major incidents, Dean Elliott, Fire Service NILO Officer, SE Counter Terrorism Unit, Thames Valley Police.
  • paramedic triage and prioritisation of a patient at the scene of a major incident, Adam Davis, Senior Lecturer, Paramedic Science, Kingston University and St George's, University of London.
  • the personal experiences of a hijack hostage survivor Mike Thexton, author of ‘What Happened to the Hippy Man?'
  • role of imaging in victim identification, IAFR.
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), James Tapp, Lecturer, Forensic Psychology, Kingston University.

What will you take away?

An understanding of the inter-operational response in a major incident. You will have the opportunity to share experiences with fellow professionals who will offer practical approaches to major incident response.

Course tutor/s

This course will be led by various academics from Kingston University and key professionals involved in major incident response.

Prerequisites

A current working knowledge of major incident response will enable delegates to benefit fully from this study day.

Fees

IAFR members are eligible for a discounted rate of £55.

Kingston University alumni are also eligible to apply for the discounted rate of £55.

Current Kingston university students will be charged at £25.
