This course will give you the opportunity to explore the strong links between maths and visual art, and address ways in which you can embed these in your primary curriculum. We will look at paintings and sculptures by artists whose work relates to maths, and in the practical activities, we will use a range of media, in 2 and 3 dimensions. The course will also highlight the value for children in working collaboratively.
A range of maths concepts will inform art activities, offering an engaging way in to maths for children who may struggle, and a challenge for others to give their abstract mathematical understanding a visual form. You will also be able to extend your subject knowledge of a range of visual artists' work, and find out about galleries you can take your class to for a maths lesson, and websites which will keep you up to date with the latest maths/art ideas and activities.
Participants will receive a handout detailing:
Mari Jo Valentine
If you have any photos of work which children have done in a maths/art project, do bring these along. Aprons will be provided, but bear in mind that we will be using paint.
