Teachers are researchers of everyday practice, either through collecting data from our pupils or by reflecting on our own practice with a view to improve it. Despite this, we are often reluctant to see research as an element of our profession that can help us develop our practice and professional profile, and become leaders of change.
This course will make you aware of your ability as a practitioner researcher and prepare you to actualise this ability in a simple and practical way.
This short course provides a basic introduction to researching your own practice. It would be suitable for practitioners who are thinking about undertaking small-scale research within their setting. It will offer you opportunity to gain relevant understanding of some useful research tools and provide a forum for the design and development of simple data capture practices, specifically, questionnaires, interviews and observations. Each week will focus on one of these tools and explore the advantages and limitations of each.
The course is offered both as a full day workshop and as three two-hour evening sessions.
This course is relevant to practitioners in education settings (no prior knowledge of research methods is required).
Please bring a laptop if you have access to one.
Discounts are available for Kingston University School of Education's partner schools and Kingston University students and alumni.
