If you are an international teacher of English and you would like to develop your proficiency as an English language teacher, this intensive course is for you.

This course is designed to facilitate your professional development by improving your English communication skills and developing your awareness of effective teaching methods.

Language workshops will provide direct experience of a range of methods with a focus on communicative language teaching. Lectures and presentations will provide additional pedagogical input.

In addition to this learning you will visit English primary and secondary schools to learn how the school is organised and how lessons are taught.

You will also visit some of the wonderful sights of London, to explore historic and contemporary British culture and collect authentic materials and experiences to enrich your classes.

Course description

  • English language skills – there will be a strong emphasis throughout the course on giving you opportunities to practise and develop your communication skills with a particular focus on oral fluency. The course offers a range of engaging and stimulating opportunities for language development through: practical language classes; workshops; oral presentations; tutorial support; role-play; small group or pair work; and lectures and seminars. These class activities will be supported by guided learning tasks and will allow for continual assessment and feedback.
  • Teaching methods/ approaches – teaching methods will be explored in several ways throughout the course. Language workshops will provide direct experience of a range of methods with a focus on communicative language teaching. Lectures and presentations will provide additional pedagogical input. These will be brought together in discussion sessions throughout the course which emphasise reflection on these approaches in terms of your own context.

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at teachers with a pre-intermediate to upper intermediate level of English. It is not suitable for beginners or advanced English speakers. A minimum of 10 students is required to run the course.
