The Business of Football

Hosted by Kingston University and Fulham Football Club

One of London's Olympic 2012 legacy promises was to "inspire a generation" and the UK certainly has gone sports-mad. Out of all the many sports however, it is football which is a particular obsession in England and even seen as a way of life for some. England is considered the home of football, there is evidence of the game being played as early as 1170, and the reputation of our FA and top-flight players extend worldwide.

What better experience could there be, therefore, for those on career track to study sports management, than to come to the UK to "dip a toe" into the workings of one of our most historic clubs. Our two-week intensive short course on The Business of Football, in partnership with *Fulham Football Club is designed to give students an insight into the inner workings of a professional football team and to prepare students who are considering further study or a career in the global multi-billion pound world of sports business.

About Fulham Football Club

Founded in 1879, Fulham Football club are the oldest established football team from London to have played in the Premier League.  They play in the Championship league of English football at Craven Cottage on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham, London and their training ground is at Motspur Park. Both are within easy travelling distance from Kingston University.

The club has produced many great English footballers including Johnny Haynes, George Cohen, Bobby Robson, Rodney Marsh and Alan Mullery.

Kingston University and Fulham Football Club have developed a positive working relationship and have been involved in a number of collaborative research and community projects over the years.

Who can apply?

The course is open to UK and International Students, 18+ with a good level of English.

About the programme

This unique summer school is built around both academic and practical learning sessions and is supported by a social programme of activities including a visit to high profile sporting venues such as Wimbledon Lawn Tennis or the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (host of the 2012 Olympics) and other football stadiums such as Chelsea.

You will also experience a historic football stadium tour at Fulham's home ground of Craven Cottage and will attend a competitive match (subject to schedule) and visits to central London.

Each student will also be given a Fulham branded kit to take home after the course. There will be several opportunities to practise your skills and to train at Fulham Football Club - you are expected to take part in these practical sessions but you do not have to be highly proficient at football to take part - so remember to pack your fitness kit.

The programme comprises two weeks of academic learning at Kingston University partnered with the practical experiences of working sessions at a professional and historic Championship Club.
