This heritage tour of Scotland will take you from the lowlands of Edinburgh to the Highlands and Loch Ness. You will follow the trail of highlanders such as William Wallace and Robert Bruce, seeing some of the most dramatic scenery in the British Isles.
Itinerary for the trip
- Day 1: Edinburgh: Royal Mile
Travel by high-speed train from London King's Cross to Edinburgh. On arrival, enjoy a walking tour that includes the Royal Mile and other Scottish gems. Free time gives you the chance to visit the Scotch Whiskey Heritage Centre, the Palace of Holyrood House or climb up Arthur's Seat.
Overnight and evening at your leisure in Scotland's historic capital Edinburgh. Your guide will point you in the right direction to find the best of Edinburgh's nightlife!
- Day 2: Scottish Highlands
Then it's on to what Scotland is all about – on a two-day tour of Highlands. The first day includes a stop at the Wallace Monument, commemorating 'Braveheart's' stand against Edward I. We then admire the craggy mountain landscape of Glencoe and Rannach Moor. The day ends for a photo-stop at Loch Ness, where you can start your own search party for Nessie, the infamous Loch Ness monster and a visit to the Clansman Centre to find out first hand about life as a Highlander.
Overnight is at Fort Augustus.
- Day 3: Scottish Highlands
On the third day of your tour, we go to the site of the last highland charge, Culloden Moor, where you will visit Culloden Battlefield. Then on to Pitlochry set under the dramatic skyline of Ben Vrackie. The final Highland visit will be the Hermitage – Birnam Wood in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Wooded walk with waterfalls and salmon leap before returning to Edinburgh.
Overnight and evening at leisure in Edinburgh.
- Day 4: Edinburgh Castle
Our last stop is Edinburgh Castle, perched atop the Royal Mile in all its majesty, where you can see the legendary Stone of Scone and learn more about Scotland's history.
This afternoon collect your bags and head to Waverley station for your return rail journey to London.
What is included in the price?
This trip is offered in conjunction with Proscenium Tours. Price per person is £335, minimum of 30 students required if booked before 31 May. Price per person £359 if booked after 1 June. Included in the price is:
- one-way coach transfer from Kingston University at start of tour (students to make their own way to Kingston University on return);
- return travel by rail London to Edinburgh;
- three nights hostel accommodation;
- Clansmen Centre Highland Display, Stirling Castle, Culloden and Edinburgh Castle;
- coach transport in the Highlands; and
- tour guide throughout the tour.
Lunches and dinners are not included in the price. Please note that you are expected to use your travelcard to get back from Kings Cross station to Kingston at the end of the trip.
