Dr Alan Seddon

Associate Professor

About

I started my career as a Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Calabar, Nigeria between 1980-84 after completing my PhD at North East London Polytechnic (now the University of East London). Prior to joining Kingston, I worked for more than 6 years as a Research Fellow in the Department of Histopathology at University College London and Middlesex School of Medicine. I joined Kingston University as a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Biology in 1991 and was promoted in 1997 to Principal Lecturer. I was appointed substantive Head of the School of Life Sciences in 2007, having previously been Acting Head (2004-07) and Acting Deputy Head (2002-04). I retired from the Head of School post at the end of July 2014, but returned part-time as Associate Professor in Life Sciences. I continue to teach on a number of modules and I am the module leader for the MSc Immunology and Biology of Disease module (LS7002). I pursue my research in collaboration with Prof Helmout Modjtahedi and Prof Andrey Karlyshev and act as second supervisor for several of their PhD students.
