Dr Alison Baverstock

Associate Professor of Publishing and Director of the Kingston University Big Read

About

I am both a publisher and academic, an important combination in a profession-orientated field like Publishing Studies. I have researched and written widely about the publishing industry and my books are both widely translated and used world-wide within industry and academia. I jointly set up MA Publishing at Kingston in 2005-6 and have been here ever since.

I want our Publishing students to be curious about the widest range of publishing opportunities; aware of the significant benefits that come from taking part in reading and assume an early responsibility for encouraging wide participation. To that end I have been significantly involved with related initiatives include setting up 'Well Worth Reading' within public libraries (1985 onwards), establishing www.readingforce.org.uk within Forces families and at Kingston establishing our pre-arrival shared reading scheme - The Kingston University Big Read.

My industry-related research has explored self-publishing, marketing in publishing, and is now concentrating on the changing role of the author.
