I joined the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in Sept. 2016 and currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Aircraft Structures and Materials. After gaining a Ph.D. in Physical Sciences from Anna University, India, I held various positions in Japan and UK. I got Monbusho Fellowship from the Govt of Japan to carry out part of his Ph.D. programme in the Dept of Materials Science and Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan. Later I was awarded STA post doctoral fellowship by the Govt of Japan to pursue my research on porous materials for high temperature applications at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Nagoya, Japan and subsequently, I joined the same group as research scientist. I was nominated for the Young Asian Scientist presentation award by the Ceramic Society of Japan in 2002. Before taking up the position at Kingston, I spent over 10 years in the Centre for Advanced Structural Ceramics, Department of Materials, Imperial College London in developing Thermal Protection System (TPS) for Hypersonic Applications as a part of the UK Space Programme in collaboration with US Airforce Research Labs, Dayton, USA.

I have 18 patents and published over 107 peer-reviewed papers in above mentioned research. I presented over 100 papers in conferences including invited and plenary talks. I am also acting as a reviewer in many reputed journals and currently serving as the editor of "The Journal of Ceramics".

Research

I study the relation between processing, properties and microstructures in a broad range of ceramics. My research interests include: ceramics processing (wet chemical processing, molten salt synthesis, reactive processing, oxide and non-oxide ceramics),  glass ceramics, porcelain ceramics, refractories, MAX phase materials, ultra high temperature ceramics (UHTCs), ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), porous materials for high temperature, environmental barrier coatings (EBCs), joining of materials (glass-metals, metal-ceramics and ceramics-ceramics), surface analysis (SIMS) and microstructures (SEM, FIB, TEM).

I have 18 patents and published over 107 peer-reviewed papers in above mentioned research. I presented over 100 papers in conferences including invited and plenary talks. I am also acting as a reviewer in many reputed journals and currently serving as the editor of "The Journal of Ceramics".

I have been awarded research funding totalling £497K from SCG chemicals (Thailand) to develop "High emissivity coatings for cracking furnaces" (Mentioned researcher/co-investigator), £265K from Rolls-Royce (USA/UK) for the development of  "Environmental barrier coatings for SiC/SiC composites" (Co-Investigator) and £250K from Office of Naval Research Global (USA), for the development of "Oxidation resistant C/C composites for aerospace applications" (Investigator). I was also a mentioned researcher in the UK MoD space programme to develop "Ultra-high temperature ceramic materials for aerospace applications" funded by Dstl, UK for a sum of £600K.
