Research

My research focuses on nationalism and the politics of identity through three broad areas of interest. The first area grew out of my PhD research on the Arab-Israeli conflict and examines the way in which Israeli national identity and culture were and continue to be constructed in relation to Palestinian identity and culture. The second area of interest, concerns the relationship between food, nationalism and globalisation. As a former chef, I am particularly interested in how, in relation to globalisation, food is conceptualised and promoted as national. Finally, I am involved in a British academy/Leverhulme funded research project looking at the perceptions of identity and challenges of belonging among EU citizens in the UK.
